Equal Employment Opportunity Unit
Metro is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to creating and maintaining an environment that values diversity and ensures that all employees are free from discrimination and unlawful harassment. As a recipient of federal funds, Metro is required to establish a goal-based Affirmative Action Plan to develop diversity in its workforce.
The Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) unit develops and implements EEO programs to promote diversity in the workplace such as the Metro’s Affirmative Action Program. It routinely monitors for compliance all decisions of the Metro (including its contractors and subcontractors) affecting employment practices such as recruitment, hiring, training, promotion, termination, compensation, and other terms and conditions of employment to ensure that they are made without regard to sex, race, color, ancestry religious creed, national origin, physical disability, (including HIV & AIDS), mental disability, certain medical conditions (including cancer), age (over 40), marital status, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable federal or state statutes.
The EEO Unit also protects employees exercising their rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and related statutes, and facilitates the resolution of complaints by encouraging employees to first address their EEO concerns with their supervisor or manager. Complaints filed with the DEOD are promptly reviewed and investigations are conducted thoroughly and objectively by EEO representatives. Retaliation for filing a complaint of discrimination or harassment is prohibited by law and by Metro Policy.
