Mendoza designed colorful and dynamic ceramic work that now is the finish of the columns at the lower level of Firestone Station in the area where passengers make bus/rail connections. The imagery chosen by the artist are larger than life figures appearing to hold up the railway. The hand painted ceramic tile, both flat and relief, gives the columns a precious and unique look that transforms a predominantly concrete environment into one of inspiration and landmark quality.

“Perseverance, contributing and working together, and an allegorical treatment of journey are our links to neighborhoods. I want the work to resonate optimism, bringing color with content in the day-to-day struggle of making ends meet.”

RICARDO MENDOZA has created public art primarily in Southern California. From vibrant painted exterior murals to functional artwork, he has brought color and form into a diverse span of neighborhoods and communities. Past commissions have included the Pacific Alliance Medical Building, Lanark Park Recreation Building, and the NoHo Arts District Streetscape Improvement Project.
