(Communications Systems)
Grade I: $49,338 - $61,651 - $73,986

This
job bulletin is posted to establish or add to a Qualified Candidate Pool (QCP).
Position
Provides technical
support for engineering projects involving the development and maintenance of
Metro’s communications infrastructure comprised of voice, data, and vide
systems; supports the design, construction, and maintenance of LAN, WAN, PBX,
CCTV, radio, fiber optic, and other electronic communication systems for
enterprise wide connectivity; meets with customer representatives to discuss
and ensure system requirements area met; produces job specifications for
technicians to implement; oversees work of contractors, monitors their
progress, evaluates work products, and recommends payment for services;
complies and analyzes data for engineering projects; recommends materials and
equipment; prepares project reports and correspondence; trains staff in
operating communications systems, software, and equipment; assists in preparing
feasibility studies/engineering reports and in managing smaller projects;
updates drawings, configuration databases and any other technical changes;
represents Metro with construction/engineering/supplier community; may respond
to site emergencies; maintains, supports, and promotes a safe work environment
while complying with all of Metro’s safety rules, policies, and procedures; and
performs other related work.
Requirements for Employment:
Potential candidates interested in this position MUST meet the following requirements: A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering,
Electronics, Computer Science, or other related field, two years of experience
performing engineering work in appropriate discipline, and a valid California
Class C Driver License. FCC Radio/Telephone General Class License is desired.
Must have a satisfactory job performance
record as verified by reference check prior to the offer of employment. Occasional exposure to weather, physical, mechanical,
electrical, and chemical hazards.
Knowledge: Theories, principles,
and practices of Commercial Trunking/Base Station/Microwave radio, and fiber optic communications engineering
design and construction; theories, principles, and practices of current
Information Technology OSI Reference Model, LAN and WAN systems; Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations; applicable local, state,
and federal laws, rules, and regulations; local building and zoning codes.
Abilities: Analyze situations, identify problems, and
recommend solutions; perform engineering work; read, interpret, and
apply plans and specifications; meet time tight constraints and deadlines;
communicate effectively orally and in writing; prepare comprehensive reports
and correspondence; compile and analyze complex data; understand, interpret,
and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets,
and labor/management agreements; travel to offsite locations within a
reasonable timeframe.
