This
job bulletin is posted to establish or add to a Qualified Candidate Pool (QCP).
Position
Provides technical support for
computer-based electronic communications and control systems operating in the
Metro Rail Systems; identifies, documents, and responds to
hardware and software problems related to Metro’s rail operations, including
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), safety and security
communications, alarm, and access control systems; monitors systems performance
and takes appropriate actions when system problems occur; provides technical
assistance to the field technicians and other repair personnel; performs
testing of new and current electronic and computer hardware/software systems to
determine reliability; generates and analyzes information from the computer
data bases to evaluate systems performance; analyzes system defects and recommends corrective measures; assists in the development of technical
procedures for system operation
maintenance; inspects and analyzes SCADA network problems at communications and
signaling buildings along rail route; assists in updating and preparing new
maintenance and repair procedures; responsible for maintaining, supporting, and
promoting a safe work environment while complying with all of Metro’s safety
rules, policies, and procedures; and performs other related work.
Requirements
for Employment
Potential
candidates interested in this position MUST meet the following requirements: a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic,
Engineering, or Computer Technology and three years of experience performing
maintenance and troubleshooting of electronic control systems and computer
hardware and software, including two years of experience in any operating
system, any relational database applications, and network technology.
Must have a satisfactory job performance record as verified by
reference check prior to the offer of employment. Must possess a valid California Class C driver’s
license. Occasional exposure to weather, physical,
mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. Overtime, scheduled 24-hour on-call
assignments, some weekend/holiday work required when necessary.
Knowledge: Theories, principles, and practices of electronics/electrical
engineering, process control systems, data processing, and information systems;
Local Area Networks and their applications; applicable laws, rules, and
regulations.
Abilities: Perform systems work in UNIX or
any relational database; repair and maintain hardware and software components
of real-time computer and electronic communications systems used in support of
rail operations; travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe.
