Go Metro to See World Premiere Musical ‘Sister Act’The world premiere musical “Sister Act,” will open Oct. 24 at the Pasadena Playhouse. And Metro can take you there the easy way, via the Gold Line. Take the Metro Gold Line to the Lake Avenue Station. Walk one block north on Lake to Maple Street. Pick up the 180 bus and take it to Colorado Boulevard and Madison Avenue, just a block from the Pasadena Playhouse. Based on the 1992 hit movie by the same name, the musical “Sister Act” is the work of a creative team directed by Peter Schneider, with music by Tony Award nominee Alan Menken (“Little Shop of Horrors” and “Beauty and the Beast”) and Glenn Slater and book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner. It’s the story of disco club singer Deloris Van Cartier, who is placed in protective custody, posing as a nun, in a dying convent. There she faces the strict traditions of the church. The order changes, but in an unpredictable way. The historic Pasadena Playhouse opened in 1917 and moved to its current location in 1925. During its first four decades the theater produced hundreds of plays, including those by Eugene O’Neill, William Saroyan and Tennessee Williams. In operation until 1969, it helped launch the careers of Robert Preston, William Holden, Raymond Burr, Eve Arden, Gig Young and Charles Bronson. Since re-opening in 1986, it has produced more than 30 world premieres and 30 West Coast premieres. “Sister Act” will run through Dec. 3.
