      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Third Street and Kern avenue intersection will be closed for next three weeks as part of construction of Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension

Third Street and Kern Avenue intersection will be closed for the next three weeks to install an irrigation line and street widening and restoration. Work beings Monday, Oct. 30.

Traffic will be rerouted with directional signs off to Kern Avenue. Local access will be maintained by using Arizona Avenue, which will be reopened to traffic. Pedestrians crossing the intersection of Third Street and Kern Avenue will be redirected to the south side of Third Street. Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.

The Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension, which will feature eight stations (two underground), will span six miles from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles via the Arts District/Little Tokyo and Boyle Heights to Atlantic/Pomona Boulevards in East Los Angeles. It is scheduled to open in late 2009.
