Metro Gold Line Trains Now Run Faster, More Frequently• Local train service increased from four trains to six trains per hour during the morning and afternoon rush hour periods In its ongoing efforts to improve Metro Gold Line service, Metro announces that it has reduced total travel times for both local and express trains by five minutes. Local trains now travel between downtown Los Angeles and East Pasadena in about 29 minutes, down from 34 minutes. Passengers can shave even more time off their daily commutes by using the Metro Gold Line express trains. Express trains now travel end-to-end in about 24 minutes, down from 29 minutes. Additionally, local train service has been increased from four trains per hour to six trains per hour during rush hour periods to better meet the needs of Metro Rail customers. Under the new schedule effective October 29, rush hour trains will run an average of every 10 minutes during rush hours. Passengers can expect to spend an average of 30 percent less time waiting for train service between downtown L.A. and Pasadena. “Metro continues to implement system improvements that have already made it America’s Best transportation agency,” said Gloria Molina, Los Angeles County Supervisor and Metro Board Chair. “This latest speed improvement will be welcomed by all Metro Gold Line riders, who will surely appreciate an even faster, more frequent commute between the San Gabriel Valley to downtown L.A.” The improvements are the result of Metro Rail Operations system modifications and train control upgrades. Since Metro introduced express service last February, ridership has grown steadily, hitting an all-time high in September, where average weekday boardings reached almost 21,000. The line opened in July 2003, and will be extended six miles to East Los Angeles in late 2009. Commuters can park at five Metro Gold Line stations. Union Station contains 2,000 paid parking spaces. Highland Park contains 140 metered parking spaces. A new parking structure at the Mission Meridian Transit Village in South Pasadena provides 122 paid spaces. Del Mar Station has 600 paid spaces, and Sierra Madre Villa Station has 850 free and 100 reserved parking spaces.
