      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Construction Work on the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension Continues on Third Street in East Los Angeles

Beginning Friday, December 1, Metro construction crews will be working along Third Street in two areas as construction of the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension moves forward.

Third Street, between Eastern Avenue and Ford Boulevard, will be closed to remove a portion of the Third Street Bridge over the 710 Freeway. Work is scheduled for two consecutive weekends: Friday, Dec. 1, at night through Monday, Dec. 4, early morning, and then again Friday, Dec. 8 to Monday, Dec. 11.

Residents should expect reduction of eastbound and westbound traffic lanes. Vehicles will be redirected with directional signals. Pedestrians will be detoured into a safe area in the construction zone. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

The second part will also be at Third Street, between Arizona and Laverne avenues, where street restoration on the south side of the street will take place beginning Friday, Dec. 1 throughout January 30, 2007. Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

Residents should expect closure of the south side of Third Street for approximately five weeks. Traffic will be redirected to the north side of the street. Pedestrians will be detoured into a safe area in the construction zone. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

The Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension, which will feature eight stations (two underground), will span six miles from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles via the Arts District/Little Tokyo and Boyle Heights to Atlantic/Pomona Boulevards in East Los Angeles. It is scheduled to open in late 2009.

Residents who need more information should contact Metro Community Relations at (213) 922-2259.
