Go Metro to Altcar Expo Dec. 9-10If you’re interested in seeing the latest alternative fuel vehicles during the AltCar Expo in Santa Monica next weekend, Metro’s alternative fuel buses and trains can get you there. The City of Santa Monica, Metro and a host of environmental groups will sponsor the AltCar Expo, Dec. 9 and 10, an event billed as the most comprehensive, technologically advanced exposition of alternative fuel and high-MPG vehicles ever held. The AltCar Expo will be held at Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Air Center, 3021 Airport Ave., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Admission to the Expo, the seminars and technology displays is free. Parking is $5. More than 100 alternative fuel and high-MPG vehicles, including hybrid, electric, hydrogen, compressed natural gas, plug-in hybrid, high MPG gasoline, ethanol and biodiesel, will be showcased at the event along with other environmentally friendly vehicles such as Segways. Activities will include a “new car lot” for alternative vehicles that attendees can drive or purchase. Public transit also will be featured AltCar Expo, with the latest in bus and light rail technologies, route information and urban planning. Metro will display a 60-foot articulated bus and show poster boards of its transit expansion plans. Metro’s clean air buses, the nation’s largest compressed natural gas bus fleet, can provide service into Santa Monica. Enthusiasts seeking to attend the event by public transport can utilize Santa Monica Big Blue Bus 14, which will bring them to the intersection of Bundy and Airport Ave. Metro patrons can transfer to this bus at Santa Monica Boulevard from Metro Bus Line 4 and 304, and at Wilshire Boulevard from Metro Local Line 20 and Metro Rapid Line 720. Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus will also operate free shuttles from the Los Angeles Convention Center to the AltCar event to give visitors to the traditional auto show a free ride to learn more about alternative transportation. The convention center is accessible by the electric-powered Metro Blue Line from Pico Station. For more information, visit WWW.METRO.NET or call 1-800-COMMUTE. Editors Note: Metro is the proper came in referring to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of Los Angeles County. For the past three years Metro has been changing all its signage and other materials to reflect the name change. If you need a current Metro Logo, please call Metro Media Relations at (213) 922-2700.
