      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Street Work Restoration, Widening on Third Street Take Place as Construction of Light Rail Extension to East Los Angeles Continues

The south side of Woods Avenue, at the 3rd Street intersection, will remain closed until further notice for street widening and restoration work as part of the fast-developing construction of the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension at East Los Angeles.

To cross the Pomona Boulevard intersection, northbound traffic on Woods Avenue will need to go east on Via Corona and then north on Atlantic Boulevard. Eastbound traffic on Pomona Boulevard will need to go south on Atlantic Boulevard and then west on Via Corona to cross the Woods Avenue intersection.

Pedestrians using Woods Avenue (east or westbound) will be redirected to a protected pathway work zone. Local access will be kept open, and access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

The Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension, which will feature eight stations (two underground), will span six miles from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles via the Arts District/Little Tokyo and Boyle Heights to Atlantic/Pomona Boulevards in East Los Angeles. It is scheduled to open in late 2009.

Residents who need more information should contact Metro Community Relations at (213) 922-2259.
