• Dedication ceremony to be conducted at site of new construction on Friday, Feb. 3, at 12:30 p.m. Metro San Gabriel Valley will be commemorating the start of construction of a new, state-of-the-art Metro Bus Operations Building in El Monte with a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the construction. The new building will be constructed next to the old Bus Operations building, which is located on the premises of Metro Division 9 at 3369 Santa Anita Avenue in the City of El Monte, next to the El Monte Transit Center. In addition to being the main building for bus operators and other employees at Division 9, the new building will also serve as the new home of the San Gabriel Valley Sector administrative office, and will include a community room for Metro San Gabriel Valley Governance Council meetings, public hearings, and other Metro meetings.
Metro San Gabriel Valley General Manager Jack Gabig is excited about the new Bus Operations building which has been over three years in the making. “This will be the first new Bus Operations building Metro has constructed in nearly 20 years, and will replace the current building that was built in the 1970’s,” said Gabig. “Once completed, Metro and the City of El Monte will have a beautiful new building of which we can all be proud.” The new building will be a three-story, 45,515 square foot steel frame structure. The building envelope consists of an aluminum metal and glass wall panel system, and a structural glass curtain wall system in the lobby. The new building will achieve a LEED which will incorporate recycled materials, energy efficiency, daylighting, and air quality controls. As a Green Building , it is designed with objectives including protecting occupant health, improving employee productivity using energy, water and other resources more effiicently. The new Bus Operations building will not only replace outdated and antiquated facilities, but allows for a future increase in the bus operating fleet, sector personnel, and expanded operation of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Metro San Gabriel Valley field office. The construction contract was awarded to W.E. O’Neil Construction Company of California, a family and employee owned full service general contracting firm. W.E.
