New Service will Carry Metro Orange Line Riders to Malibu Mountains and Beaches via ParklinkLove the mountains and beaches but not the crowds or the traffic? Metro can help carry Orange Line riders to Malibu with a brand new service and, on the same trip, link them with beauty spots in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. As a bonus, the entire trip can be made for only the cost of a Metro ticket or pass. Beginning July 1, Metro bus Line 161 will make an extra stop at the intersection of Las Virgenes and Agoura roads to meet the National Park Service ParkLINK Shuttle carrying passengers from the San Fernando Valley into the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The year-old Park Service shuttle will amend its route to meet Line 161 at the new stop four times per day on weekends and holidays. As an added convenience, selected 161 buses will make special trips to pick up Metro Orange Line riders at the Warner Center station and return them there, four times a day. Riders can even save money by taking Metro to ParkLINK. ParkLINK normally costs $1 per person for adults (children under 12 free) but it will be free to riders showing valid Metro tickets and passes. Through Labor Day, Sept. 4, the ParkLINK shuttle will meet the 161 four times per day on Saturday, Sunday and holidays: two trips in the morning leaving Warner Center at 9:53 a.m. and 10:53 a.m. and two trips in the afternoon leaving the Las Virgenes/Agoura roads stop at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Travel time to the Metro Orange Line at Warner Center is about 26 minutes. The Orange Line departs every 11 minutes, at that time of day. The ParkLINK Shuttle, which debuted in July, 2005, makes 13 stops at various scenic spots within the national recreation area, including three beach stops at Zuma and Westward, Malibu Lagoon and Dan Blocker beaches. ParkLINK shuttles run every 30 to 60 minutes. A $3 Metro day pass is the most cost-efficient way to travel to the shuttle, unless the 161 Line is the point of entry.
