      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Go Metro to Tofu Festival and Receive Reduced-Price Admission Aug. 12-13

More than 100 imaginative and delicious tofu dishes served by LA’s hottest restaurants, artisanal soy products and a wide array of Pan-Asian and non-vegetarian specialties are on the menu for the 11th annual Tofu Festival, Aug. 12-13 in downtown Los Angeles. Combine terrific food with cutting-edge celebrity chefs, a tofu eating contest, a beer, wine and sake garden and musical entertainment and you have an event worth traveling to. But driving isn’t necessary for this popular Little Tokyo festival, since it’s only a short walk from the Metro Red Line. In addition, if you take Metro you will save money on gas and, as added incentive, get $3 off general admission and $2 off senior/child admission (regularly $8 and $5). Children under 5 are free. Just show your Metro pass or ticket to get the discount.

New to this year’s festival is the Celebrity Chef Cooking Demonstration Stage featuring famed Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto from the popular “Iron Chef” TV show, PBS star and cookbook author Tommy Tang, Troy Thompson from the “Iron Chef America” television show and Candice Kumai from the Bravo TV series “Top Chef.” Also this year will be the first U.S. Initial D anime (animation) marathon in English, shown continuously on plasma screens.

Dishes range from $1 to $4 per serving. Hours are Saturday, 2 to 10 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. The discount offer is not valid with any other discounts or after 5 p.m. and each valid Metro pass is good for one discount. All proceeds benefit the programs of the Little Tokyo Service Center.

Take the Metro Red Line to Civic Center station. Walk 10 minutes east on 1st Street to San Pedro Street. Turn right (south) and walk to 237 S. San Pedro St., between 2nd and 3rd streets. Or take Metro bus lines 30, 31, 40, 42 or the Downtown DASH.

For more details on the Tofu Festival, go to the Web site www.tofufestival.com. For advice on getting there via Metro (and to find out how much money you can save by taking Metro, rather than driving) go to the Trip Planner at www.metro.net. Or simply call 1-800-COMMUTE.
