      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Go Metro to 8th Annual Saint Sophia’s Greek Festival

Dreaming of a Greek cruise but a little short on vacation cash? Check out the 8th Annual Greek Festival at Saint Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles, Sept. 8 through 10. Not only will the food and entertainment be authentic Greek, Metro can take you there for just the cost of a $3 day pass. You can’t say that about the price of a cruise.

Of course a Greek cruise has other virtues, including delicious Greek pastries, Greek beer, folk dancing, music, wine, ouzo and metaxa, Greek theater and shopping for Greek handicrafts. Well, Saint Sophia’s has all of that, too, plus a tour of the architecturally important Greek cathedral.

Among the mouth-watering offerings to look for at the event are dolmathes, grape leaves stuffed with rice, meat and spices; gyros, a seasoned beef and lamb combination served on hot pita bread with onion, tomato and cucumber sauce; moussaka, layered sauteed eggplant with ground beef and cream sauce; pastitsio, Greek lasagna; spanikopita, filo pastry filled with cheese and spinach; kalamari, fried squid; baklava, filo pastry layered with chopped walnuts, honey and butter, and koulourakia, the traditional butter cookies that are perfect with strong Greek coffee. As if all that weren’t enough, the Saint Sophia Greek Festival also celebrates the Latino culture of the surrounding neighborhood through food, entertainment and music.

Saint Sophia is at 1324 Normandie Ave., between Pico and Venice boulevards. Hours of the Greek Festival are 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 8, 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 9 and noon to 10 p.m. Sept. 10. Admission is free on Friday, Sept. 8, and $3 for adults on Saturday and Sunday with free admission for kids under 12 all weekend.

To find out how to get there via Metro, go to www.metro.net and consult the Trip Planner on the top right of the home page or call 1-800-COMMUTE. For more information on the festival, go to www.lagreekfest.com or call (323) 737-2424.

Last year’s festival drew 18,000 and projections suggest even larger traffic-snarled crowds this year. Take Metro and leave the traffic and vacation budget cares behind.
