Construction Activities Begins Sept. 14 in Boyle Heights for Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension

Metro construction crews will begin Friday, September 14 to build curb, gutters and to lay rail tracks for the light rail project of the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension.

On the south side of First Street, between Lorena and Indiana streets in Boyle Heights, workers will begin to build a new curb and gutter. During reconstruction of driveways, affected tenants and residents will have limited parking access at Pizza Hut’s parking lot. Working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, September 14 and 15.

Residents should know that reconstruction of driveways will the done one at a time and won’t be accessible for 2 to 3 hours. Street parking on First Street will be restricted. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to north side of First Street. Access to emergency vehicles will be maintained.

In the Little Tokyo/Arts District area of downtown Los Angeles, Metro will begin laying rail tracks on First Street, between Alameda and Vignes September 14, 17, 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Motorist in the area should expect traffic to be pushed close to the curb on the south side to allow concrete to be poured. Eastbound traffic will be narrowed to an 11-foot wide lane. Street parking will be restricted and local access to residences, businesses and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

The Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension, which will feature eight stations (two underground), will span six miles from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles via the Arts District/Little Tokyo and Boyle Heights to Atlantic/Pomona Boulevards in East Los Angeles. It is scheduled to open in 2009.
