Metro Honors the Best of the Best at ‘Night of Stars’ Ceremony; Six Metro Spotlight Awards GivenOver 125 Metro Operations employees were recently honored for their achievements over the past five years of service during a special “Night of Stars” ceremony held in Universal City. Metro transportation and maintenance employees who met certain criteria including no lost work-time due to injuries, receiving no disciplinary action, zero traffic accidents and no excessive absenteeism over the last five years received a special medallion presented by Metro executive staff. Metro’s “Night of Stars” event was held Nov. 2 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City. A total of 127 Metro Transit Operations employees received awards honoring their outstanding performance. Metro also honored six individuals who were selected as outstanding Metro employees and received the Metro Spotlight Award for going above and beyond the call of duty. This category was open to any Metro operations or maintenance employee with a minimum of six months on duty. Their performance exemplifies the agency’s mission and core values. The six “Spotlight” award winners were nominated by the five Metro Service Sectors and Metro Rail. The winners received a commemorative plaque. The six outstanding “Spotlight” award winners are: Metro Bus Operator Cesar Guzman, an 8-year Metro veteran operates Metro Bus service out of the Arthur Winston Division in South Los Angeles. He was nominated by Metro’s South Bay Service Sector for his altruism and dedication in providing much needed help to the poor and less fortunate in El Salvador. He resides in Inglewood. Metro Maintenance Technician Anthony Camcam, a 7-year Metro veteran who works at Metro’s Division 3 in Cypress Park as an Electronic Communications Technician. He was nominated by the Metro San Gabriel Valley Service Sector for his dedication to the agency’s DriveCam Program, his excellent attitude toward getting work done and for proving himself as a trustworthy, reliable and a hard worker. He lives in Los Angeles. Metro Maintenance Employee Paul Rankin, a 23-year Metro veteran, currently works at Metro’s Sun Valley Division and was nominated by the San Fernando Valley Service Sector. He is a Warranty Equipment Mechanic and is honored for being an integral part of ensuring the safety and reliability of the division fleet. He makes his home in Valencia. Metro Rail Specialist John Tena, a 19-year Metro veteran works on the Metro Green Line and was nominated by the Metro Rail division. He was honored for his excellent attendance record and an unblemished personal record. He is very knowledgeable in all the operating systems of the Metro Rail vehicles and has a “can do” attitude and strives to complete all assignments on time. He resides in Long Beach. Metro Bus Operator Linda Wilkison, an 18-year Metro veteran currently operates Metro Bus service out of Metro’s Division 10 just east of downtown Los Angeles. She was nominated by Metro’s Westside/Central Service Sector for being an asset to the agency, serving as a member of the division’s rules and procedures committee. As a member of the committee, she is credited for her attention to detail which has proved important in changing rules for the safety and well being of Metro Bus operators. She lives in Rialto. Metro Mechanic Frank Morris, an 18-year Metro veteran works at Metro’s Bus Division 2 near downtown Los Angeles. He was nominated by the Metro Gateway Cities Service Sector for his dedication to the agency and to his fellow mechanics. He has worked tirelessly to improve his skills and his work ethic is a testament to what hard work and dedication can achieve. He continuously gives his best to improve his mechanical abilities.
