Metro Continues Installation of Rail Track for Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension ProjectMetro construction crews continues advancing along the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension light rail project delivering and installing rail track and re-configuring street traffic in Little Tokyo, Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles for the next several weeks. Rail track delivery and installation is taking place during nighttime work on First Street, between Vignes and Alameda streets as well as on Alameda Street between First Street and the 101 freeway in Little Tokyo/Arts District. Work is being done from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m., until Friday, November 16. On Tuesday, November 13, First and Indiana streets will be re-striped from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. This new configuration will allow utility relocation improvements in preparation for rail track installation in the next few days. Third Street, between Indiana Street and Ditman Avenue, will also be re-striped Wednesday, November 14, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., to allow Metro to begin utility relocation and improvements on the north side of Third Street, which will begin Thursday, November 15, from 7 p.m. to 4 p.m. Pedestrian traffic will be rerouted to a safe area outside the construction zones. Access to homes, businesses and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all time. The Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension, which will feature eight stations (two underground), will span six miles from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles via the Arts District/Little Tokyo and Boyle Heights to Atlantic/Pomona Boulevards in East Los Angeles. It is scheduled to open in 2009.
