FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Metro to Add Two New Metro Rapid Bus Lines; Create a New Local/Limited Downtown L.A. Bus Line and Provide Additional Saturday Service on Selected Lines Effective Dec. 16

Metro will add two new Metro Rapid Bus lines, provide additional Saturday bus service on four lines, extend the routes on three lines and create a new local/limited bus line serving downtown Los Angeles via Washington Blvd. effective Sunday, Dec. 16.

The two new Metro Rapid Bus Lines include Line 728 (Downtown LA-Century City via Olympic Blvd.) which will operate along Olympic Blvd. from Cesar Chavez Ave. and Vignes Street near Union Station to Century City. The second Metro Rapid Bus Line to be implemented is Line 770 (Los Angeles-El Monte via Garvey Ave. and Cesar Chavez Ave.) that will operate in the San Gabriel Valley from the El Monte Bus Station into downtown Los Angeles. These two new Metro Rapid Bus lines will operate Monday through Friday beginning Monday, Dec. 17.

The addition of these two new Metro Rapid Bus Lines brings the total to 20 Metro Rapid Bus Lines -- including one line operated by Santa Monica Big Blue Bus that operate throughout the region along major transit corridors. In 2008, a total of 28 Metro Rapid Bus Lines will be implemented.

New weekend service will be added to Metro Rapid Bus Line 780 (Pasadena-West Los Angeles) between Pasadena and Hollywood. Extra Saturday service will be added to Metro Bus Lines 18, 45 and 66.

In addition, Metro plans to operate a new local/limited bus line 35-335 (Downtown LA-Washington Blvd./Fairfax Ave.) along Washington Blvd. replacing a portion of service previously provided by Line 68-368.

These Metro service changes and enhancements are aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the system through better use of resources.

Metro also plans to discontinue Metro Gold Line Express service and convert that service to local service by improving the frequency of trains operating between Los Angeles and Pasadena to now run every 7 to 8 minutes during the peak periods.
