Metro Ceo Roger Snoble Statement
Re: SCAG’s “State of the Region” Report
December. 6, 2007

SCAG’s “State of the Region” report shows that while progress has been made in our efforts to improve mobility throughout the region, we still fall short on what is needed to relieve traffic congestion. This is primarily because there just is not enough money for transportation purposes.

Clearly we know what works and how to solve much of the problem. The key ingredient we’re missing is funding. We know that public transit works, Metro Rapid Lines work, Metro Rail works, carpool lanes on freeways work, so the real issue is having the dollars to do the things that will ease congestion and improve our mobility.

If we are to keep this region moving, we must secure additional transportation funding, change driver’s behavior and increase the use of public transit or face the nightmare of constant gridlock on our streets and highways.
