MTA TO HOLD AN ADDITIONAL PUBLIC HEARING ON
PROPOSED METRO BUS SERVICE MODIFICATIONS
 

            The MTA Board of Directors will hold an additional public hearing on Saturday, November 18, 2000 to receive public comment on proposed route and schedule modifications to MTA Metro Bus service along the Harbor Transitway, Wilshire-Whittier corridor, Ventura corridor and other service changes.

            Two previous public hearings were held on October 7 and 14. However, due to the recent strike, the MTA Board approved an additional meeting to take place on November 18 to allow those unable to comment on the proposed changes an additional opportunity.

            The public hearing will begin at 10 a.m. in the third floor board room at MTA’s headquarters, One Gateway Plaza, next to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

            The following changes are proposed to improve bus service and access for passengers using the Harbor Transitway: Metro Bus lines 51, 351, 205, 445, 446, 447 and 550.

            In the Wilshire/Whittier corridor lines 18, 20, 21, 22, 471, and 720 are proposed to be restructured and/or canceled to reduce service duplication and better match service to customer demand.

            In the Ventura corridor, the following service is proposed to be restructured to improve services and meet customer demand: lines 150, 240, and 750.           

Other miscellaneous service change proposals designed to improve the operation of Metro Bus service are :Lines 40, 42, 102, 107, 114, 220, 250, 253, 340, 402, 436, 442, 466, 484, 490, 491, 497, 620 and 625.

            The MTA Board of directors will make a decision on the proposed service changes during its November meeting. If the changes are approved, in whole or in part, the new service and service modifications will be implemented by December, 2000 or later.

            Interested members of the public are encouraged to attend the public hearing and provide testimony. Those persons unable to attend the hearing may submit written testimony postmarked through November 18, 2000.
