to Hold Public Hearing on Expansion of Metro Rapid Program,
Proposed Fy 2002 Bus Service Changes

will hold a public hearing this week to receive public comment on the
expansion of the highly successful Metro Rapid Program and proposed bus
route and schedule modifications on five existing Metro Bus lines.
The proposed expansion and changes would take effect in December
2001 or later.

The expansion would include establishing Metro Rapid station stops at
major destinations, key transfer points, and areas of high demand.
MTA inaugurated Metro Rapid service in June 2000 on two corridors,
Ventura and Wilshire/Whittier boulevards.
Since the inception of service, ridership on the two corridors has
approximately 25 to 30 percent. Two-thirds
of the increase came directly from new transit travel.

hearing. Approved changes

Members of the public who are unable to attend the hearing and

2001.
