FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MTA to Host Community Meetings to Explore
Transportation Solutions for North L.A. County

Versión en español
The MTA will host two community meetings, Nov. 14 in Santa Clarita and Nov. 15 in Palmdale, to discuss transportation solutions for North Los Angeles County.

The open house meetings are the first in a series of public meetings for MTA’s North County Combined Highway Corridor Study, which will develop feasible and cost-effective solutions for alleviating traffic congestion in that area.  The study will focus on transportation issues directly impacting residents, and specifically look at options from the junction of the I-5 and Route 14 north to the Kern County line.

The study will consider alternatives including construction of additional freeway lanes, special lanes for trucks and carpools, bus rapid transit, high-speed rail transit, widening/realignment of SR-138, and possible links through the San Gabriel Mountains between the Antelope Valley and I-210.

MTA has launched this outreach effort to solicit public participation and feedback regarding transportation issues of greatest concern to north county residents, businesses and other stakeholders.  The public is encouraged to attend to speak with MTA and study staff, submit comments and provide feedback about possible alternatives to improve inter- and intra-regional travel.  The public also can learn how to become more involved in future planning activities.

Meeting information is as follows:

  • City of Santa Clarita
    Wednesday, November 14,
    6-8 p.m.
    College of the Canyons (Cafeteria)
    26455 Rockwell Canyon Road
    Santa Clarita, CA 91355

  • City of Palmdale
    Thursday, November 15,
    6-8 p.m.
    Palmdale Youth Library
    (Warnack Activity Room)
    38510 Sierra Highway
    Palmdale, CA 93550

The rapid population growth and economic expansion in North Los Angeles County ranks the area among the fastest growing regions in California.  The increase in automobile and truck congestion along the I-5, SR-14 and SR-138 corridors has placed additional stress on a highway system that continues to work beyond capacity.
