FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MTA Board Names Light Rail Line to Pasadena ‘Metro Gold Line’

Versión en español
The MTA Board of Directors today named the light rail line, which will link downtown Los Angeles to Pasadena, the Metro Gold Line. Currently under construction, the Metro Gold Line is due to open in July 2003.

The Metro Gold Line will span 13.7 miles from Union Station to Pasadena and include 13 stations. The line will serve the communities of Chinatown, Lincoln Heights, Highland Park, South Pasadena and Pasadena. The trip from Sierra Madre Villa Station in Pasadena to Union Station will take 33 minutes.

An independent construction authority is building the Metro Gold Line. Upon completion, the line will be operated by MTA.

The Metro Gold Line will provide a direct link to the Metro Red Line subway at Union Station and will expand the Metro Rail System from its current 59.4 miles to 73.1 miles. In addition to the 17.4-mile Metro Red Line, the system also includes the 22-mile Metro Blue Line and the 20-mile Metro Green Line.

Within the decade, MTA plans to construct and operate two additional light rail lines. They include an extension of the Metro Gold Line from Union Station to East Los Angeles via Boyle Heights and a line that would operate on the Exposition right-of-way from downtown Los Angeles to Exposition Blvd./Vermont Ave., with the possibility of an extension to Venice Blvd./Robertson Blvd.
