MTA Board Approves
Appointments for Westside/Central Service Sector Governance Council
The MTA Board of Directors
today approved the appointment of eight individuals that will serve on the
Governance Council of the Westside/Central community-based service sector.
The members of the Governance
Council will represent the cities of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles and
Westside cities of Beverly Hills, Culver City, Santa Monica and West Hollywood.
The Governance Council will work with sector General Manager Jim McElroy and his
staff to improve Metro Bus service in the Westside/Central area.
"I look forward to working
with the new members of the Governance Council in bringing quality Metro Bus
service to the Westside/Central area," said Westside/Central Service Sector
General Manager Jim McElroy.
The eight members include:
Carol Gross of Culver City, Brad Robinson of Beverly Hills, Ann Semonco of West
Hollywood, Stephanie Negriff and Joyce Perkins representing the County of Los
Angeles, and Pressley Burroughs, Helen Johnson and Peter Capone-Newton
representing the City of Los Angeles. One additional member from the City of Los
Angeles will be appointed at a later date.
In addition to their role in
improving bus service, Governance Councils are intended to localize control of
the Metro Bus system. Members will ensure that MTA focuses on its customers and
transportation needs in their service areas.
Sector Governance Councils,
now in place at all five community-based service sectors, oversee the planning
and implementation of Metro Bus service within their areas. Their
responsibilities include approval of the sector general manager's annual
budget proposals, conducting public hearings concerning proposed changes in bus
service, reviewing and developing policy recommendations for MTA Board approval
and contributing to the general manager's annual performance review.
