FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Metro Day Pass to Provide Customers with
Unbeatable Value for Daily Transit Needs

Beginning Jan. 1, 2004, Metro will unveil a brand new and eagerly anticipated fare product for Metro riders -- The Metro Day Pass, a convenient and cost-effective fare medium that allows unlimited rides on the Metro Bus and Rail system on the day of purchase until 3 a.m. the following day.

The pass will benefit cash-paying customers by lowering their daily commute costs while also providing a convenient way for vacation and/or business travelers to freely visit L.A. County destinations.

At $3, the pass will be cheaper for commuters who now purchase round-trip tickets with transfers. For example, a $1.35 one-way ticket with 25-cent transfer now costs $1.60, which doubles to $3.20 when a return trip ticket is purchased. The pass is just $1.50 for seniors, disabled and Medicare recipients.

There is a higher cost for freeway express bus service.

"The new Metro Day Pass is going to be the best value for many of our customers, especially those who pay cash for daily tickets," said Roger Snoble, Metro CEO. "What's more, people will now have the flexibility to get on or off the system as their needs require. This is extremely valuable for people with active lifestyles and commute schedules."

The Metro Day Pass will be sold on Metro buses and at all Metro Rail ticket vending machines. Effective Jan. 1, the Day Pass will replace 25-cent transfers within the Metro system. Cash fares will also be lowered to $1.25 for a one-way trip.

With the Metro Day Pass, riders pay once and ride all day without having to fumble for exact change, ask fellow riders for change or cause boarding delays.

Out-of-town visitors who come to L.A. for a day or two will find the Metro Day Pass the best choice compared to one-way fares or higher priced weekly passes.

For commuters transferring from the Metro system to municipally operated bus lines, a 25-cent transfer fare will be required unless they purchase+ the EZ transit pass.
