FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Go Metro to Celebrate Earth Day with 'Green' Rock Band Canon at Union Station

Bring your lunch, enjoy the music and contribute to a better planet.
Celebrate Mother Earth on Earth Day by leaving your gas-guzzling, air-polluting car behind and going Metro to Union Station for a free concert by the rock band Canon. Canon will perform its hit eco song “The Hourglass,” as well as other great music, at Metro’s “Rock & Ride” Earth Day event on Tuesday, April 22, at noon, on the South Patio of Union Station.

The concert is planned to promote public transit and draw attention to environmental concerns by rewarding mass transit patrons with entertainment in a distinctive, transit-friendly venue. The only way to attend the show is to present a valid Metro or Metrolink ticket or pass.
"We want to reward our customers for the respect they show the earth by leaving their cars at home and commuting on Metro," said Marc Littman, Metro Deputy Executive Officer for Public Relations.

"We're also hoping that potential new riders will take the subway or bus to get to the concert and find out how comfortable it is. Even if we inspire only a few new riders, we've accomplished what we set out to do in celebration of Earth Day. We've chipped away at global warming, a few cars at a time."

Last fall, hundreds of Metro riders and Canon fans rocked Union Station during a Saturday night concert celebrating music, the environment and the contributions Metro riders make to the air by going “green” rather than driving. The four-member Canon group performed songs in a variety of styles -- some of them reminiscent of contemporary rock groups "Radiohead" and "Muse" but also influenced by "King Crimson," "Yes" and "Jethro Tull." They also debuted their piece, "The Hourglass," a song celebrating the rise of environmental concern around the world.

So bring your lunch, enjoy the music and contribute to a better planet. Go Green! Go Metro!
