Metro Bikeway Planning

Click here for more information on Bike to Work DayMetro supports bicycling as a transportation mode that improves air quality and congestion and helps make healthy communities in Los Angeles County. Our population is expected to grow by at least 25% over the next 20 years. To allow for this growth, Metro is working to provide greater choices in getting to work, school, or shopping instead of driving a car.

Metro’s Long Range Transportation Plan indicates that about 2.4% of all trips in the county are made by bicycle with a goal of 5% by 2025. Metro wants to make cycling a viable choice that is safe and easy, and to finance bike projects that link to public transit and improve access throughout our built and natural environment.

Bike Rack on Bus ImageSince 1992, Metro has provided about $102 million for bike projects throughout the county including: bike maps, education and safety programs, bicycle parking facilities, racks on buses, and bike lanes and paths.

Check out the information on this page to make your bike riding safer and more convenient or refer to our bike resources on left. And thank you for riding your bike—you are helping to improve your health, the environment and the quality of life in Los Angeles County!
