Procedures for Appealing

An assessment appeals process has been established by Metro consistent with state regulations. The following is a list of several types of appeals. This list is compiled as guidance only, and is not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive.

  • Assessment of exempt property
  • Assessment of residential hotel/apartment hotel
  • Assessment of property which contains a mix of assessable improvements and exempt or non-assessable improvements
  • Assessment based on incorrect square footage of property or improvements
  • Assessment of properties that are vacant due to regulatory codes
  • Assessment of a building that is less than 80 percent efficient
  • Assessment of an improvement that is used for wholesale, manufacturing or industrial
  • Assessment of property that is not located in the benefit assessment districts

In order to qualify for the reduction or exclusion from an assessment, an appeals petition should be filed by the owner or a representative of the owner. See Appeals Form.
