Overview

Metro is proposing a northern extension of the successful Metro Orange Line service. Metro is currently preparing an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) that will study various alternatives that would connect the Metro Orange Line Canoga Station with the Chatsworth Metrolink Station (and a possible on-street extension to the SR-118 Freeway).

The project’s goals are as follows:

  • Improve north-south mobility in the western San Fernando Valley by connecting activity centers along the corridor and connecting the Metro Orange Line with Metrolink
  • Support land use and development goals by making the corridor’s land uses accessible by transit, pedestrians and bicycles
  • Maximize community input by incorporating community-generated ideas and solutions into the project
  • Create a project that is compatible with and enhances the physical environment
  • Is cost-effective and affordable
  • Minimizes impacts on the community

Earlier this year, the Metro Board of Directors approved a $5.95 million contract for environmental clearance and preliminary engineering for this proposed project. Metro’s Draft EIR (DEIR) is scheduled to be finalized and presented to the Metro Board of Directors for consideration in 2008. Once completed, the DEIR will be circulated to the public for formal review. Comments on the DEIR will be responded to in the Final EIR.
