Overview

The Exposition Light Rail line is the newest extension of the 62-station Metro Rail system. The 8.5 mile line runs along the Metro-owned Exposition right-of-way from the existing Metro Rail station at 7th/Metro Center in downtown Los Angeles to Washington/National in Culver City.
The Exposition Light Rail line includes approximately 10 stations. Although the alignment will primarily be at-grade, the project includes aerial stations at La Cienega Blvd. and La Brea Ave.
A future study would extend the Exposition Light Rail line to the City of Santa Monica.

Project Process

Metro began work on the Mid-City/Westside Transit Corridor Study in 1999. This study included evaluation of a list of transit alternatives for the Westside. After considerable analysis and additional stakeholder input, a Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Report (DEIS/R) was prepared for the Exposition Corridor. The Metro Board adopted the DEIS/R, light rail transit and an alignment from Downtown Los Angeles to Culver City as the Locally-Preferred Alternative (LPA) for the Exposition Corridor in 2001. Thousands of comments on the DEIS/R were received and recorded. In response to these comments, a Final Environmental Impact Statement/Report (FEIS/R) was prepared and released in 2005. Preliminary Engineering Design (PE Design), which commenced in 2003, accompanies the preparation of the FEIS/R. Both the FEIS/R and PE Design were completed by the issuance of the Record of Decision (ROD) from the Federal Transit Administration in February 2006.
