Variable Work Hours
Variable Work Hours programs provide alternatives to typical work schedules. These programs can reduce the number of vehicles coming to the work site, decrease employee absenteeism, and increase Average Vehicle Ridership (AVR). There are three types of Variable Work Hours programs:
Compressed Work Week
- Employees complete their required number of weekly hours in fewer days than the typical five-day work week For example, employees may work four 10-hour work days instead of the usual five 8-hour work days in one week
Flex-Time
- Employees vary their start and end times while maintaining a core set of work hours
Staggered Work Schedules
- Spread out the peak commuting period to relieve traffic congestion in and around the work site
